Rishikesh – One of My Favourite Places in the World

I have been fortunate enough to visit Rishikesh on many occasions, each time I go back to this beautiful place I fall more in love with it. Found in the northern region of India at the foot of the Himalayas, Rishikesh has so many different reasons for you to visit.

If you like yoga then you’ll love it because it’s become the capital of the world for that ever popular hobby. If you like trekking then you should head here too because this magical place has been given the title of ‘Gateway to the Himalayas.’ So what makes Rishikesh so fantastic and why do I think it should be added to every bucket list?

The Food

India is one of the best places you can go to if you’re a food lover – I don’t think I have ever had a bad meal there. The city is a very spiritual place, because of that there is no meat or alcohol allowed. You’ll find a blend of many different cuisines; Tibetan, Italian, Indian and even German. My mouth still waters when I remember the Banana Nutella Pancake I would have for breakfast every day, it was heaven.

For Adventure

I think every now and then we should step outside our comfort zone to get the adrenaline flowing. If you want to add a bit of adventure to your travels Rishikesh is the place to be. There’s a plethora of activities for you to try; white water rafting, jungle camping, bungee jumps and if you’re feeling super adventurous try some cliff jumping. I tried the rafting which was absolutely amazing, it gives you such a great rush especially when you fall into the icy cold waters of the Ganges!

Great For Your Budget

Regardless of what budget you’re traveling on, Rishikesh is a place that anyone can afford. Hotels in Rishikesh are super affordable, so whether you’re looking for a backpacker place or a high end 5-star, you will be able to find it here. You can also find some cheap tours in if you hunt thoroughly. As for the food, you can eat a decent meal for just a dollar or feast on exquisite fine food if your budget permits.

Other noble mentions should be taking a yoga class, visiting the Beatles Ashram and the amazing street art you’ll see dotted around the city.
